i hate my job!!!

one of the most popular utterances amongst employees since the beginning of time has been " i hate my job!" sure there are good and bad days but for some reason this has been something just about anyone who has been employed has said during their regular work day. In the financial struggle most Americans face, some are forced to take a job just to keep the customs of their lives, even if its not the ideal place to work.

many things can become a pest while working. one thing that i have learned is the center of all the frustration is people becoming distracted. being distracted from the reasons why you are there can become a huge problem.people become easily irritated by fellow co workers, work conditions, and
most important their net pay. based on experience i believe that if one can focus only on their tasks and everything they need to do to get it done efficiently a lot of things that can get stressful are no longer a problem. Also after you begin to focus on your task and you actually get tons of work done you begin to appreciate that salary.

to help you get a start, Diplomat records Ceo and rapper Cam'ron has a song (off his latest commercial album called Crime pays) all about the troubles of the work force today. he highlights various parts of an average day for 2 people on both sides of the fence. first is the annoyed office worker who hates everything about her job.then there is the guy who is being haunted by mistakes in his past during his job interview and the struggles he faces while searching for a job. watch the video, theres a small skit which is pretty funny. i think this video should help you reconsider that job you think you hate. video

its pronounced intern not lackey!!

at first thought everyone thinks of interships as unpaid tedious work or hard labor. sometimes its difficult to see what can be gained when its not the kind of profit you have in mind. although there are paid internships i find that the ones with no pay usually offer more to gain. interning has a stigma that can never be erased although very little internships still live up to it. most internships have become the apprenticeship of our day. many people have learned about the field they want to be in based on these internships. internships are very helpful in various ways. one that i enjoy the most is meeting new people and building relationships. in this day with all the daily struggles and financial troubles, a helping hand is always helpful.

going into an internship there are a few thing you must know. 1st. dress to impress! some places may have a business dress code, but if not try to dress presentable! no t- shirts of your favorite band, no baggy or super skinny jeans, and please, if you're going to wear sneakers make sure they are clean!!!! 2nd. dont go into this experience thinking you are going to be the next sean combs. chances are you are not going to start off as an intern and then eventually become the Ceo, it just doesnt happen that way. 3rd. treat this experience as a real job. this is exactly how you show the people you work around good work ethic and your capabilities. this is how you get offered a job in the end.

in a nut shell interning should mostly be a learning experience of some kind and should not be one that you get nothing out of. with every task (even the tedious ones) try to complete them as if it's the task that can get you a job working there. with this read i think it should be a fun experience interning and if not...dont forget what i said!!

colleges are the next starbucks!!!

when investors become part of academia this is when life gets a bit scary.if you thought you were just a series of numbers before....you definitely are now. business is all around us, but damn who knew it would even be in a place where we can learn about it. With predictions of the stock market crashing many investors must have thought ahead and attempted to find a new way to profit from the everyday life around us. for profit (or what i like to call for their profit) schools have become one of the latest trends in academia mainly due to the many campuses they have. these schools focus on convenience alternatives to the conventional structure of universities. the convenience alternatives are the marketing schemes chairmen of these schools use for profit (no pun intended lol). one thing i found chilling is they use more marketing dollars that companies like tide, Revlon and Fed ex.

with this much money involved there are definitely millions of students behind these schools in support. when i was in high school we would get visits from a lot of these schools but no one really took interest. these schools just all seemed too good to be true.

when an academic institution of any kind spends more marketing dollars that a company that sells laundry detergent should'nt that be alarming? last time i checked people mostly chose where they wanted to further their education based on their intellectual level, athletic talents, artistic skills, etc on the level of prestige the school has earned.

first impression

job interviews can be one of the biggest dissappointments or one of the biggest successes for a person. its very important to do everything in your power to make sure that you have the greatest first impression. today its very important now more than ever that you are a step ahead of the average person because the job market is a struggle to get into. the smallest thing can deter an employer from hiring you.
job interviews have been something that has caused sleepless nights and tons of anxiety. a few easy things that can get you a step ahead of the average interviewee and relieve the anxiety are 1. arriving to the interview early, 2. dressing properly for the interview(wearing business attire) but dont over dress, 3. be very polite (use manners), and last be as articulate and open minded as possible as you're answering questions. i found a few links that share similar information on job interviews and other interesting tips as well. tip 1 tip 2 tip 3

keys to get you in the door!!

resumes resumes resumes. if you ever want to ruin someones day ask them for help on your resume. it seems like the trouble lies in being creative about your past. most people look at their past as something thats just black and white. this is what causes the "resumes block" if you will.

all that is necessary is to find key things in your acedemic and professional history that can stand out in a good way and sculpt it to your potential employers taste. i found a few website that share some keys to get you into that professional door you're trying to walk through. these sites share alot of info on key points and also general information on other parts of writing your resume. key1 key2 key 3. hopefully these three links have made your creativity more colorful. after using these links theres one task left. test it out! have someone pose as an emplyer and see if anything stands out to them.

resume...its french!!!

so today in class we were talking about different things related to resumes. if you think you knew it all about resumes, professor beaufort will assure you you're wrong. i knew something he didnt though, and thats where the word resume comes from. its french! resume' is a french word meaning short story or brief overview. today we live up to that definition. our resumes are a brief overview of our educational and professional history.

in about 10 minutes we learned about how to assemble a resume properly to avoid getting it chucked. according to professor beaufort a resume should only be about a page unless you are submitting it to a highly skilled job/career. on your resume, objective should be first following contact info, education experience, skills, volunteer work, and certifications or licenses. these are the five main points for a resume. within the main points we were told to be brief unless it was essential. one section that we were warned could easily be filled with useless info is skills. there are so many skills (like typing speed) we include that professor beaufort explained are useless in this age.

overall there wasnt much i learned being someone who made their first reusme at 17 now 21, but anything i was skeptical about adding professor beaufort confirmed if it was crucial or not.i think todays class was very informative being that there may not have been many who really knew how to create a compelling resume. we will see if beaufort is really the resume guru at the end of this semester with how many people found a new job after his resume' lesson.
